Wild – Gwyllt : Youth Dance Project / Prosiect Dawns Ieuenctid
Gathering roughly once a month July 2019 to March 2020 the young dancers involved in Maynard Abercych’s WILD project have improvised, connected, explored & created towards making a performance work. Facilitated by Eeva-Maria Mutka and Stirling Steward, with the theme encompassing delight in & concern for the WILD, the project has emphasised building confidence & trust individually & as a collective.
Dancing at Small World Theatre in Cardigan, Abercych Village Hall, and in the studio & woodland of Pen Pynfarch, together they have discovered ways to structure improvisations and choreograph as a group, honing physical skills and expanding imagination into their moving bodies.
The music of fiddle player Elsa Davies and presence of wordsmith Kate Pawsey added welcome layers to the making process. Energy & focus in the studio and out in the wilds has been fantastic, and we were disappointed to have to take a pause just as the group was on the cusp of presenting our work at SWT in the spring. Now the dancers have gathered again to transform the ideas and material into a short film.
