Every Body with SiD
Following the joyous success of their residency, film screenings & inclusive dance workshops in 2018, Shropshire Inclusive Dance (SiD) returned to Pembrokeshire for four further visits during Plethu to offer a series of workshops for all in Abercych.
SiD engaged people with dance throughout the community and worked with people of all ages & abilities to share the joy of movement & moving together.
Each visit included an inclusive workshop for participants from Clynfyw Care Farm and an open intergenerational workshop.
Some participant feedback:
“Quite powerful to be able to dance with children. My creative side feels the need to be creative with children, not just always escape them to get what I need, they are such dancers, and my rugratty life with them is such a dance…”
“Really joyful. Feel myself again. Soothing & uplifting. Helps problem solving. Right as rain. Connecting, redeeming.”
“Fabulous, wonderful, more please!”
Following each public workshop an invited group of dance practitioners gathered with SiD to share practice, ideas, questions and inspirations in and about integrated dance work. This rich dialogue was relished by rural practitioners who rarely find chance to meet in this way.
“I still remember leaving the practitioners gathering thinking ‘how did I not know there were so many people dancing and practising here’. Working within any context, but specifically a rural context it is easy to hone in solely on your practice and your participants. However, remembering to look up and connect with the greater body of work that is happening is an opportunity that does not happen often enough. Dancing with and then speaking to a host of different dance practitioners and academics facilitated a listening beyond my personal viewpoint to consider other ways of moving with the body, other ways of forming connections with participants and ultimately deeper reflections on how I see myself as artist, teacher, facilitator. Co-creation offers such a rich platform for dialogue and it is only through shared experiences such as this, that we create space to connect, move and think beyond our echo chambers. Thank you PLETHU for opening new vistas.”
