"Over the last year, while working with Maynard and Afon,
I have limited my time on the project to when the sun is passing through one of the 3 water signs and taken the mode of each as a guide to consider and collect different kinds of material.
The process began with a walk down the river Pibydd with the sun in the sign of Cancer. The size and nature of the river seemed to express something of the cardinal mode.
While the sun was moving through Scorpio in 2023 we walked in the woods around Fynnone, perhaps Pluto was watching. The still deep waters of the lake inspired an idea to POOL a collection of sounds and I invited the other Afon artists to select vinyl from my collection to become a resource for a new improvised mix.
With the Sun in Pisces this year I spent some time with the confluence of the river Mwldan into the Teifi and the merging of Nant Duad and Nant Hafren near Castell Henllys. I gathered some material and had an idea to MERGE, to explore ways of bringing together different sound making practices.
When the sun returned to Cancer I returned to MERGE and also looked closer to home to explore the Mwldan in more detail. Taith Afon Mwldan was the result and started to explore ideas of containment and control.
During my time with Afon this November the Sun will be in Scorpio. I plan to explore and record some of the hidden parts of the river. To bring together material gathered over the last year and explore its potential once contained and displaced." - Jacob Whittaker Part of Maynard

“Dros y flwyddyn ddiwethaf, wrth weithio gyda Maynard ac Afon, rwyf wedi cyfyngu fy amser ar y prosiect i’r adeg pan fydd yr haul yn mynd trwy un o’r 3 arwydd dŵr ac wedi cymryd modd pob un fel canllaw i ystyried a chasglu gwahanol fathau o deunydd.
Dechreuodd y broses gyda thaith gerdded i lawr yr afon Pibydd gyda'r haul yn arwydd Canser. Roedd maint a natur yr afon i'w gweld yn mynegi rhywbeth o'r modd cardinal.
Tra roedd yr haul yn symud trwy Scorpio yn 2023 cerddon ni yn y coed o gwmpas Fynnone, efallai bod Plwton yn gwylio. Ysbrydolodd dyfroedd llonydd dyfnion y llyn syniad i Bwlio casgliad o synau a gwahoddais artistiaid eraill Afon i ddewis finyl o fy nghasgliad i fod yn adnodd ar gyfer cymysgedd newydd byrfyfyr.
Gyda’r Haul yn Pisces eleni treuliais beth amser gyda chydlifiad yr afon Mwldan i’r Teifi ac uno Nant Duad a Nant Hafren ger Castell Henllys. Cesglais rywfaint o ddeunydd a chefais syniad i UNO, i archwilio ffyrdd o ddod â gwahanol arferion gwneud sain at ei gilydd. Pan ddychwelodd yr haul at Canser dychwelais i UNO, ac edrych yn nes adref hefyd i archwilio'r Mwldan yn fwy manwl. Taith Afon Mwldan oedd y canlyniad a dechreuais archwilio syniadau am gyfyngiant a rheolaeth.
Yn ystod fy amser gydag Afon fis Tachwedd yma bydd yr Haul yn Scorpio. Rwy'n bwriadu archwilio a chofnodi rhai o rannau cudd yr afon. Dod â deunydd a gasglwyd dros y flwyddyn ddiwethaf ynghyd ac archwilio ei botensial ar ôl ei gynnwys a'i ddadleoli." - Jacob Whittaker
